Alright, so as stated in my previous journal, I went to the range today, and had a blast! (Pun intended) A friend of my mom's from work took me, my dad, and his stepson out to the range today with a LOT of guns. It was pretty funny, because by the time we were done loading the car, we had a minivan full of guns. I find the irony in that hilarious. I started out with the .22 Pistol, then went to the 9mm Glock, and then fired the 20 gauge pump shotgun. After that I fired the muzzle-loader, which is a rifle where you pore powder down the barrel, put the bullet in, ram the bullet down, and then put the primer in the back. I personally don't like it, mainly because of all the work that has to go into one shot, but John's stepson really likes it. Anyways, after that I fired one of the best weapons of the day: A Mauser .308. John calls it "Thumper" and its his "Go-to gun", for when he absolutely has to kill something at a distance. It is a bolt action rifle with a five round magazine, the famous Mauser action, a black composite stock, fold-able adjustable bi-pod, and a VERY powerful scope on it. It's a beautiful weapon, and it shoots as good as it looks, you can't miss with the thing, it is excellent; they call it thumper though, because it definitely gives your shoulder a good thump. After a while we had to stop shooting it, as the barrel was hot enough to fry an egg on. So John brought out the .44 Magnum Ruger Super Blackhawk which had no hesitation in firing as I had had a lot of fun with it last time. I fired all full .210 grain loads with it, meaning that I could quite possibly kill dear or elk with it. My dad actually couldn't handle it and the scope hit him in the head and gave him a cut, lol. Ammo for it is expensive though, so we didn't get to fire it a lot. So from there it was on to the single lever action high velocity .243 varmint rifle. Its also a good rifle, but its not my favorite. I fired a 3 rounds with it, but after that I fired the 20 guage some more. Between all these guns, we were switching up firing different guns at different times, and when we first got there the range was so crowded it actually wasn't until later that we got a bench and could fire the rifles. We were running out of time, and so it was time to pull out what I have nicknamed "Boomer". "Boomer" is 20" long, is 12 guages, and just happens to be a shotgun made by Mossberg called the Mossberg Cruiser. It has no shoulder stock, so you hold it by the pistol grip. It has a four round magazine, not including one in the chamber. I started off with it, firing birdshot, which was actually pretty fun, and didn't hurt that much at all as long as you fired from the hip. After emptying the gun, my dad gave it a try but he held it at chest height and it hurt him a lot to fire it. So I put the last of the birdshot through it and then moved on to the big stuff: the magnum 00 (double-aught) buckshot shells. Lets just say that two was enough. In other words, "MY HAND HURT LIKE A MOTHERFUCKER". My dad fired one shot and then, without me knowing, ejected the last round onto the floor of the shooter's area. Not a good move, he told me later, and I gave him a severe lecture on the dangers of leaving live ammunition on the ground. It was awesome. And now, as promised, video links:
